Team Liquid partnered with Viz Media to celebrate 20 years of Naruto with one of the most ambitious anime-esports apparel collaborations ever produced. Launched on March 31, 2023, the collection stands out for its custom cut-and-sew construction — each piece is crafted from scratch rather than printed on blank garments.

What Makes It Special

The defining feature of the Naruto collection is that it features artwork from all three series — Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Boruto — on single garments. This is truly unique in licensed anime merchandise, where collections typically focus on one series at a time.

As Team Liquid Co-CEO Steven Arhancet explained on Reddit: “We have created a collection of custom cut and sew items that feature artwork from all three series on a single garment; this is truly unique.” The post on r/Boruto received 196 upvotes and generated genuine excitement from anime fans.

Each piece uses the custom cut-and-sew technique, meaning the artwork is woven into the fabric construction rather than printed on top. This produces a higher-quality garment with graphics that maintain integrity through washing and wear.

Anime x Esports Crossover

The Naruto collection was one of the early signals that anime-esports merchandise crossovers could work at scale. It predates Sentinels’ Haikyu collaboration (August 2025) by over two years, establishing Team Liquid as a pioneer in this space.

The crossover works because the audience overlap is real: esports fans are disproportionately anime viewers, and Naruto’s themes of determination, teamwork, and growth resonate directly with competitive gaming culture.
